The second subgroup of Psychology Group conducted an experiment that is under Developmental Psychology; where the psychologists will study and understand how humans adapt through the stages of their lives.
|
It's the battle of the sexes. Who will prevail? The same gender or the different with one another?
According to John Bowlby's Attachment Theory, in order to develop an attachment to someone, they should have the availability of time towards an individual. but the researchers want to find out if gender can be one of the factors that can affect the closeness/attachment of a person aside from the availability of time . That is why they decided to conduct this experiment.
Benefits
-This will help the parents who lack in parental attachment to their children, as this experiment/research might help or enlightened them to know/identify the closeness of their children. -To inform other people that there are differences between the affectionate or closeness level of siblings depending on their gender. |
Procedure
|
- The sibling knows their brothers’ or sister’s likes and dislikes. - Since siblings usually grow up together. Siblings are often close, through the years that they were together they should still be familiar with each others likes and dislikes, such as their favorite movies, colors, and etc.
- They are open to each other. - They develop their relationship through sharing growth or trauma, passion or activity, differences, similarities and interests, that lead them to be more close to each other.
- The siblings trusts one another - They entrust their thoughts and secrets because they feel that their sibling is reliable and someone with whom secrets can be kept. The foundation of closeness of siblings is trust, its lifeline is forgiveness when the other is driven to disappointment. Happiness and love of siblings’ closeness is brought out when they have trust in each other.

Conclusion
The researchers met their hypothesis as the same gender get high scores than the siblings with different gender. The result shows that the Penas brothers (Boy - Boy) got 84% and the Pullantes sisters (Girl - Girl) got 84.50% which indicates that they have passed on the percentage line and standards. While the Basagre siblings (Girl-Boy) only got 26% which shows their weak attachment. But over all, the researchers proved that gender can affect the closeness of siblings; that same gender have strong attachment than different gender . |
Recommendation -The researchers would like to recommend, that if you are going to conduct the same experiment, try to look for more subjects and try to be specific with the age to have good and credible results. -The researchers would like to help those siblings who are not that close with each other and advised to spend more time with each other to build up a strong attachment. -The researchers would also like to remind those parents to always monitor their children to avoid conflicts and war. Better to spend more time with family to build up a good relationship. |
Documentation
If you are going to conduct the same experiment, make sure to have a peer/friendly approach to your respondents so they will not feel awkward and at the same time there are someone who can cheer them up as they answered. (This is the researchers' Girl-Girl and Girl-Boy respondents)
